What do people like (and dislike) about Vientiane?
When we asked expats and global nomads what they like and dislike about living in Vientiane, they replied...
"Expats and digital nomads living in Vientiane, often like the laid-back atmosphere, friendly locals, and the relatively low cost of living. They appreciate the rich cultural heritage, beautiful temples, and the Mekong River, which offers stunning views and recreational activities. The city's growing café culture, with numerous coffee shops and restaurants, is also a plus for many. On the other hand, some expats and digital nomads may dislike the limited entertainment options, as Vientiane is a small city with a slower pace of life compared to other Southeast Asian capitals. The lack of public transportation and the need to rely on tuk-tuks or motorbikes for getting around can be inconvenient for some. Additionally, the quality of healthcare facilities may not be up to the standards that expats from Western countries are used to, and they may need to travel to neighboring countries for more advanced medical treatments. The hot and humid climate can also be a challenge for those not accustomed to tropical weather. Furthermore, the language barrier can be an issue, as not all locals speak English, making communication and daily tasks more difficult. Lastly, the internet speed and reliability may not be ideal for digital nomads who rely on a stable connection for their work," said a member in Vientiane, Laos.
