What do people like (and dislike) about Ljubljana?

Answer this Question

When we asked expats and global nomads what they like and dislike about living in Ljubljana, they replied...

"Expats and digital nomads living in Ljubljana, often appreciate the city's picturesque beauty, with its charming old town, historic architecture, and the Ljubljanica River flowing through the city center. They also enjoy the city's vibrant cultural scene, which includes numerous festivals, museums, galleries, and a lively nightlife. The cost of living in Ljubljana is relatively affordable compared to other European capitals, making it an attractive destination for digital nomads. The city offers a high quality of life, with excellent public transportation, a strong healthcare system, and a safe environment. Ljubljana is known for its green spaces, such as Tivoli Park, which provide a peaceful escape from the urban hustle. The city's location also allows for easy access to outdoor activities, such as hiking, skiing, and exploring the beautiful Slovenian countryside. The local cuisine is diverse and delicious, with a mix of Mediterranean, Balkan, and Central European influences. Expats and digital nomads can also find a variety of international restaurants and cafes, catering to different tastes and dietary preferences. However, there are some challenges that expats and digital nomads may face while living in Ljubljana. The language barrier can be an issue, as not everyone speaks English, and learning Slovenian can be difficult due to its complexity. This can make it challenging to navigate bureaucratic processes and integrate into the local community. The job market in Ljubljana can be competitive, particularly for non-EU citizens, who may face additional hurdles in obtaining work permits and finding employment. Additionally, the city's size and limited coworking spaces may not offer the same networking opportunities as larger digital nomad hubs. The weather in Ljubljana can also be a downside for some, as winters can be cold and snowy, while summers can be hot and humid. Finally, while the city is well-connected to other European destinations, it may not offer the same level of international flights and connections as larger cities, which could be a drawback for frequent travelers," wrote a member who made the move to Ljubljana, Slovenia.
