What is the social scene like in Chiang Mai?

Answer this Question

When we asked people living in Chiang Mai about the social scene there, they described it saying...

"The Thai culture is extremely accommodating and welcoming for Expats. As a Buddhist country, respect is a very high virtue for them and this accrues to their relations with foreigners as well. Additionally, Chiang Mai is a bit different from the social experiences of the capital city, Bangkok, as well as the more traditional vacation spots on the islands of the south where interactions between local natives and Expats can be more strictly transactional and money-driven. Chiang Mai still has enough of the traditional northern mountain-village ethos that the locals aren't simply looking to make money off of foreigners and are just as happy to help give directions or simply interact in a friendly way," wrote a member who made the move to Chiang Mai, Thailand.
