We asked people in Honduras if they could share any humorous cultural blunders they commited. For new expats, keep in mind that these incidents are an inevitable part of expat life. Learning to laugh about them is the key!...

"People think that because I know Spanish so well, I know what's going on, but it's not always true. Sometimes I am totally bewildered. Also, while some of the food is familiar, it's all called by different names, so I am always asking, what is this called? People think I'm crazy--it's a banana, for crying out loud, don't you know? No, sometimes I don't," said another expat in Siguatepeque, Honduras.

"It is important to be respectful of local customs and traditions when visiting Honduras. Avoid making negative comments about the country or its people, as this can be seen as offensive. Additionally, it is important to dress modestly and to be aware of local customs regarding physical contact. It is also important to be aware of the local language and to be respectful when speaking to locals. Finally, it is important to be aware of local laws and regulations and to abide by them," wrote a member who made the move to Honduras.
