What cultural faux pas should I try to avoid making in Ivory Coast?

Answer this Question

We asked people in Ivory Coast if they could share any humorous cultural blunders they commited. For new expats, keep in mind that these incidents are an inevitable part of expat life. Learning to laugh about them is the key!...

"It is important to be respectful of local customs and traditions when visiting Ivory Coast. It is considered impolite to show too much skin in public, so it is best to dress modestly. It is also important to be aware of the local language and to avoid speaking loudly or using offensive language. Additionally, it is important to be aware of the local religious beliefs and to avoid discussing sensitive topics such as politics or religion. Finally, it is important to be respectful of the local culture and to avoid making assumptions about the people or their customs," wrote a member who made the move to Ivory Coast.
