What do expats find most challenging?

Answer this Question

We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Slovenia. They wrote...

"There is also a bit of nihilism here on the part of population who longs for the good old days with Tito and who are paid very poorly for the most part, even the professionals," said another expat in Bled, Slovenia.

"Expats in Slovenia often find the local culture to be quite different from what they are used to. The language barrier can be a challenge, as Slovenian is not widely spoken outside of the country. Additionally, the local customs and etiquette can be difficult to navigate, as they are quite different from those of other countries. Expats may also find it difficult to adjust to the slower pace of life in Slovenia, as well as the more relaxed attitude towards punctuality. Finally, the cost of living in Slovenia can be higher than in other countries, making it difficult for expats to adjust to the local economy," wrote a member who made the move to Slovenia.
