Is there a lot of crime in Colombia?
We asked people if there is a lot of crime. They answered...
"Crime... people are concerned for me in Colombia & ask me this all the time. MY ANSWER? If you keep your nose clean & KNOW where you should or should NOT be? You wouldn't have any more problem then you might have here in the states. I'm sure there are places where YOU live that you KNOW to stay away from, or NOT go there after dark. AND of course, you get into "shady" things... you'd have a problem here too," remarked another expat who made the move to Cali, Colombia.
"Unfortunately, yes. Colombia has seen its share of drug-related gang violence and criminality, fueled by a long-standing conflict between the government and the illegal drug trade. The illegal drug trade has caused an increase in homicide and kidnapping cases, as well as threats of terrorism. In addition, corruption has been an issue in Colombia for many years, with many officials having ties to organized crime. Despite efforts from the government to mitigate criminal activity, crime remains a common problem that has had a strong impact on Colombian society," explained one expat living in Colombia.
