Where should I setup a bank account in Afghanistan?
We asked expats in Afghanistan what banks they use and there advice about banking. They advised...
"Expat retirees should know that Afghanistan is a country with a high rate of violent crime and political instability. Expats should also be aware of cultural sensitivities when traveling in the country and should familiarize themselves with local customs and regulations. Additionally, expats must also be prepared to obtain a visa before entering the country, as well as a residence permit once they arrive. It is advisable to hire a local lawyer to help with any legal or paperwork requirements. Travellers should be aware of the security situation in the country and prepare accordingly by obtaining the necessary travel insurance and health insurance. Moreover, the country does not provide extensive medical facilities, so it is advisable to carry a minimum of medical supplies with them in case of emergency. Finally, expats should make sure to research their planned location carefully, as areas can vary significantly in terms of safety and quality of life," said another expat in Afghanistan.
"Afghanistan International Bank (www.aib.af) has a state-of-the-art online banking platform which allows customers to preform international and domestic wire transfers, review account histories, establish payroll, and download statements," wrote a member who made the move to Kabul, Afghanistan.
