What do I need to know when buying property in Massachusetts?

Answer this Question

When we asked expats what advice they would give a foreigner before buying a property in Massachusetts, they said...

"When buying property in Massachusetts, it is important to be aware of the applicable state and local laws and regulations. As a buyer, you should obtain accurate and up-to-date information about zoning regulations for the area you are interested in, as well as any applicable environmental concerns. You should also carefully review the title insurance and closing documents, to make sure all necessary details have been taken into consideration, such as disclosures about easements, deeds, and liens. Additionally, buyers should be sure to obtain accurate cost information ahead of time, including taxes, insurance, closing costs, and other costs associated with the purchase of the property. Lastly, it is highly recommended to engage legal and/or tax advisors to ensure you understand all of your obligations and responsibilities as a property owner in Massachusetts," wrote a member who made the move to Massachusetts.
