What do I need to know when buying property in Alabama?
When we asked expats what advice they would give a foreigner before buying a property in Alabama, they said...
"When considering buying property in Alabama, it is important to research state and local laws for taxes, zoning, and other legal restrictions. In some places there may be particular rules relating to mineral rights, waterfront access and hunting restrictions. It is important to research the title history of the property and to make sure you have a clear understanding of all liens and encumbrances attached to the property. If you are buying a condominium or other similar property, you should investigate the rules and regulations governing their respective homeowners or condominium associations. Additionally, it is important to research the local schools, crime rates, and other amenities before making a final decision. It is important to have a qualified real estate attorney review all contracts prior to signing to make sure your rights and interests are adequately protected," wrote a member who made the move to Alabama.
