What do I need to know when buying property in Colorado?
When we asked expats what advice they would give a foreigner before buying a property in Colorado, they said...
"1. It's important to research the area and local market you're interested in purchasing property in to determine how it fits the order needs and wants for your purchase. 2. You need to determine who will be responsible for various types of tax that may come up, such as property taxes, sales taxes, transfer taxes, etc. 3. Get a full property inspection to ensure the property meets your expectations and that no potential issues are overlooked. 4. Work with a real estate professional to make sure you understand all the laws, regulations, and processes involved in buying property in Colorado. 5. Be aware that, depending on the type and size of the property, HOA or condominium fees may apply. 6. Be prepared to pay closing costs, which typically include items like loan origination fees, title fees, appraisal fees, and attorney fees. 7. Make sure you understand any restrictions that may be placed on the property with regards to improvements, leasing, or transfer. 8. Make sure your financing is in place before making an offer on a property, as competitive markets may require quick decisions. 9. Protect your legal interests by having a contract and other paperwork reviewed by a lawyer," commented one expat who made the move to Colorado.
