However, the cost of living in the capital city of South Tarawa is higher than in the outer islands, due to the higher cost of imported goods. A nice 1 bedroom apartment in South Tarawa can cost around $400 USD per month, while a nice 2 bedroom apartment can cost around $600 USD per month. Eating dinner at a moderately priced restaurant in South Tarawa can cost around $20 USD per person," wrote a member who made the move to Kiribati.
