The Fontana dell'Acqua Paola, also known as Il Fontanone, is a grandiose Baroque fountain situated on the Janiculum Hill in Rome, Italy. Commissioned by Pope Paul V in the early 17th century, it was designed to mark the terminus of the Acqua Paola aqueduct, which restored the delivery of clean drinking water to the Trastevere district and the Vatican after more than a thousand years. The fountain's design, attributed to architects Giovanni Fontana and Flaminio Ponzio, features a façade with five arches, majestic columns, and a coat of arms belonging to the Borghese family. The central arch is the largest and is flanked by two smaller ones, each spouting water into travertine basins below. The Fontana dell'Acqua Paola is not only a historical monument but also a cultural icon, having been featured in various films and offering panoramic views of the city. Its location and grandeur make it a popular destination for visitors seeking to experience the rich architectural heritage of Rome.
