moving to DR

How hard is it to obtain employment in the DR if you are American? My boyfriend is Bahamian and it is IMPOSSIBLE to obtain work in the Bahamas if you arent Bahamian and my parents are looking to retire to South America or a Carib. island that is AFFORDABLE. So I was thinking the DR would work for all of us? I have a Bachelor of Arts in Health Management and 6 years insurance/call center experience. Any help would be greatly appreciated! What is the average cost of living in the DR??
