Water and Electricity

I have fallen in love with the idea of moving to DR. Two major considerations for me; Water and Electricity.
Can and do developments have potable water at the tap? Do individual homes have their own wells that are safe for drinking.? Are there water treatment companies to hire for wells and water treatments.
Electricity' can you run 220 to the house to run your larger equipment? We are from the US and most things run on 110v but have some specialty tools that require 220v.
Any insight would be appreciated.
