Best area to live for single

I have an opportunity to leave New York City for one year and was thinking about the DR. I'm not quite sure what the safest area would be for a single woman to live and work. I have a very good monthly budget so that's not an issue but rather safety and quality of life is. I will probably be working at a hotel if that has any impact on where I could be living. Nightlife is not a determining factor,but rather somewhere to shop, a place for dinner, groceries etc
