Might be moving to Algeria next year i.A. - help !!!

Hello everyone,

My husband, born Moroccan, got a job offer for Algiers. He is very keen on leaving Europe, I on the other hand am a little scared. Although I have visited Northern Africa several times, have become a muslim, and find myself quite open-minded, I could never imagine living in a country such as Morocco e.g.
so far !!!

What's life like for a european woman in Algeria? I speak fluently french, but no arabic so far. Do they try to ripp you off all the time, are you treated with respect?

And life for moroccans, I know there are some difficulties.

How about the cost of living in Algiers (housing, food, schools)? Any links which you could recommend?

Is it easy to find an appartment on your own, or should we go through an agency?
Which "quartiers" do you recommend? We need at least a 2 bedroom appartment, decent, middleclass. How are the appartments in general equipped, e.g. is the kitchen equipped with cupboards, heating available, ...

What about the healthcare system?

We have 2 kids under 3 years, so we would need a day nursery, since I would probably be working as well.
Any recommendations? Fee?

Is it very hard on getting a visa if I wouldn't have a working contract, but my husband would have one. And for how many months do they normally give you one?

What should we definitely bring, in Morocco e.g. the quality of elecronic stuff isn't any good.

Any other general advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot - shukran
wa salaam
