Personal Property & VAT?

Hi,

My family and I are committed to moving to Austria (Vienna in particular) in the next 12 - 24 months, so I'm starting to really dig into the practicalities behind the move.

My question is whether I need to worry about the possibility of having to pay VAT on any of the personal property I'm bringing along. In particular, I'm a musician with a home studio (personal use only) and have several racks filled with various electronics and computers.

Overall, I'm not too worried about getting taxed on my sofa, for instance. However, with so much technology coming along as my own personal property, do I need to concern myself with getting hit by any sort of import fee? If so, is there any way to appeal and mitigate or eliminate that fee?

TIA!
