My wife and I began the process purchasing land on Little Exuma over a year ago and it is still not finalized. Currently the lawyer is telling us that she submitted our paperwork to the registry and is waiting to hear back from them. It has been in their possession for about 6 weeks now and we still have not heard anything back. and it was submitted about 6 weeks. This is the second time that we had to submit because they rejected our criminal history reports because they were obtained on line and needed to be signed by someone who did the search and another paperwork error. Our lawyer has been very unresponsive when I reach out to her and I have only been able to speak with her assistant which is typically not very helpful. The listing for the property we were purchasing was listed by a reputable agent on great/little exuma. We hired a separate law firm that was listed on bahamas bar website. When we sent our funds the agent appeared to receive them as well. We were even sent the original documentation for the land from the lawyer. Right now we are planning on waiting another couple of weeks before we start looking into hiring another lawyer and reporting the firm to the bahamas bar association. Just curious if anyone has had a similar situation or recommendations on what we can do next. The firm has been very slow through out the entire process, which is why were trying not to over react yet but I feel like we have some legitimate concerns. Also, if you know a reputable lawyer that you have worked with please pass on their information. Thanks for any insight that you can pass on.
