Down in the weeds

I going to start reading the forum so my questions may be already answered but we'll be wondering things like
1) which side of any particular island to avoid a)bugs and insects b) rough and/or treacherous water c) seaweed, driftwood, and/or trash on beach or shoreline c) unpleasant odors

Believe it or not, I have encountered all of these things (not all at one time though) when vacationing in my past life. I believe most of the other major questions I have will already have been answered on the forum. I'm beginning to realize to avoid general online articles as several have said avoid xyz because of high crime and then two sentences later say what a great place it is and crime is low.
