building an eco home in the jungle, need a wood sealant

Hello:)
moving to Belize to build our first home in early Oct. looks like many people seal their wood with polyurethane but I'm hoping to find a water-based non-toxic wood seal. I will end up shipping it if necessary but of coarse would prefer to save that money .... any one have any experience building, sealing and protecting wood from bugs and rain... or cheap pallet shipping
