Singapore Calling!!

Dear friends, I am a Malaysian female, who has been living in Singapore for the past 14 years. I have a sister in Campinas, SP whom i visited about 10 years ago for three months and i would like to go there and spend a longer time with a view to living there permanently.

All the usuall questions go through my head about what, when where, how etc.

As i dont have a lot of funds as security, it will be important for me to work shortly after i get there. I am in my early 40s and one of my concerns was ageism and how prevalent it is there because it is VERY prevalent here in Singapore!

I can do secretarial work, and/or teach English. Am also a counsellor in training. I pick up languages easily so i will be able to learn Portugese with the help of my sister. I have a multitude of skills and am open to any kind of work actually (as long as its not immoral, illegal or harmful!)

What would it cost to live there by myself? I could live with my sister but she has several dogs and i want to take my cat there as my pet, not fodder for the dogs so i guess i will have to live away from her house..that means i need to consider the cost of rent etc.

Would appreciate it if someone could give me an idea of what it would cost to live for a year, simply. My tastes are simple, shelter, food, clothing and cat food of course! Alas, i dont drive and i need to think about where i would live and work too i guess.

Anyway, i would greatly appreciate any advice, suggestions, recommendations, etc

Please drop me a line :

Thank you.
Joss
