Driver's License

Finally got my CPF, although it was quite the hassle, as no one in any of the government offices here speaks English, and my Portuguese is still rather limited. Also, there aren't many foreigners here, so many of the officials are unfamiliar with the process.

I talked to a Canadian architect here who was able to trade his Canadian driver's license for a Brazilian license. This was about 15 years ago, and done in Fortaleza. I am far from there, and I am thinking I might try it here at the DETRAN in Crato. Is anyone familiar with the law concerning this, and if so, can you give me any details? Even a reference to a web page stating the law if possible.

Thanks
