How to Divorce a Brazilian

My Brazilian wife & I are on the brink of divorce. I am in the UK & she is currently in Brazil.

I understand that it is possible to sign over Power of Attorney to her & that she can simply get the divorce processed at the local Cartorio.

Can anyone confirm this? I'm hoping someone out there has been through a "long-distance" divorce with a Brazilian in Brazil and might be able to offer me some pointers?!?!?!
