Moving.. with pets? And where should I live?!

Hey there -

So I recently was hired, and will be moving to Sao Paulo. I'm 23, f and single - the company will be helping me with the move, but I'd like to be informed beforehand on a couple of neighborhoods that I don't need to be as worried about. I'm a New Yorker (Brooklyn!) born and bred, so maybe that should be taken into account too? Also, and to be honest more importantly (to me!), has anyone dealt with bringing pets along? I really don't have the option of leaving them behind...
