Hello,
I read from someone regarding customs being levied on many items that were both new AND OLD.
I keep almost all of my boxes. I therefore have some tools that will be boxed in their original boxes that 5-15 years old, maybe older. I have computers that are a few years old and a flat screen TV that is only 8 months old.
Can someone tell me where I can find out what is subject to customs and duties?
I have some preps like rechargeable batteries, clothing and other supplies that I have been purchasing for a couple of years. Some food like pastas can last for 20 years. So, although they may be several years old, they are still "new".
What is the best way to avoid having to pay duties for items that I have purchased? If they are new items, should I take them out of their wrappers? Should i toss the boxes? I have router bits that are still in their cases but you can see that they have been used to cut wood because you can see the crusty wood chip build up.
How closely do they check these things?
Are they going to go through each box in the container?
Do they look at your list and maybe spot check?
What is the best way to pack and document your items?
Should I simply just stop buying things even though I am here for a few more months?
Do they ask for receipts?
Thanks,
Jorge
