Leaving for Beijing

I'm currently a college student but I want to be with my girlfriend that is Chinese. I am seriously considering dropping out and moving to China. However, the main problem I face is the visa. It seems I will have to settle for a tourist visa which will only last me 30 days. Is it possible for me to obtain a better visa during the 30 days I will have?
