China Z Visa Questions - Issues

I came to China in June to teach. I've run into sketchy situations with the school I am working at. I just recently got a Z visa but do not have my residence permit yet. Due to some extenuating circumstances, I need to leave my position and am looking at going to move onto another country. Does anyone know if there are any penalties for leaving China before your residence permit is processed? My L-visa was cancelled by applying for my Z-visa. I do not plan on coming back to China but I am curious as to whether or not there are any issues that I may run into.
