Month-long sojourn in Beijing

Hi all,

I'm planning to spend the month of April in China, with a base in Beijing.

What should I do or see in this time? I'm thinking of taking HSR to see the Wall, Xi'an, and Shanghai, for example, but a month feels like a long time (right now) and I'm wondering what else I should try to see/do.
