A month ago my paisa girlfriend saw that I had canned tuna in the cabinet.
"Oh, perfecto!" she said. "I will make you a snack."
She proceeds to boil spaghetti noodles. Then mixes the tuna with the noodles. And then....
She mixes the canned-tuna-noodle combination with ketchup.
I like to think of myself as a reasonable man. One who is open to trying new things. I've eaten roasted cockroaches and ants, ate a guinea pig in Peru, chitterlings in Mississippi. But canned tuna mixed with noodles and ketchup? That one gave me pause. I ate it. It wasn't awful. It wasn't good. It just tasted like a bad idea.
I've come to discover that tuna and ketchup is a Thing in Medellin. You can buy canned tuna pre-mixed with salsa de tomate. Am I the only one who doesn't get this Colombian ketchup thing?
