Medellin, no jitters

I posted a week or so ago about an upcoming trip to Medellin, and expressed concern on the basis of several posts I'd seen here about crime (muggings, for the most part).

I'm happy to report that I went, had a nice time, and returned to MZL without incident. I went to meet up with a friend from university who I haven't seen in nearly 30 years. She was traveling with another friend of hers who she's known since kndergarten.

We stayed in Poblado, at the Art Hotel. Really nice . . .minimalist, modern, good breakfast included, nice rooftop bar. The neighborhood is nice, if a little hectic and chaotic. Another friend here said next time I should stay in Laureles.

Anyway, we had no problems. We're all fairly seasoned travelers, although of course s**t can happen to almost anyone. But no glitches, dodgy encounters, or other havoc.

I did find the shop I'd wanted to visit, and got the backpack of my dreams, so that was good. We ate at a nice Peruvian restaurant called Rocoto, and there was live music and excellent pisco sours.

In all, it was a good trip, I had a nice time catching up with my friend, but I was very happy to come back to MZL.

Thanks to all who replied with tips and suggestions, especially Fecherklyn. The taxi info was helpful, and we ended up using Indrive quite a bit, once we figured out what an acceptable offer looked like. The metro is great and easy to use. Our first evening there we went to C.C. Oviedo, got lost, and had to ask for directions to get out. Possibly the most confusing mall I've ever been in.

Anyway, it was a nice time. I liked the city, and I'll probably go back sometime soon to do the stuff that interests me.
