Typhoid

Hi All,

Been to Colombia twice. First time for 2 weeks and then for 3 weeks. Spent time in Bogota as my home base and then went to Cali, Tulua, Medellin, and Cartegena. All seem to get a thimbs up for not needing much by way of vacconations by the US CDC. But this time, I am heading to Santa Marta, Bucaramanga, and Puerto Carreno. I got the yellow fever vaccone, but something the doctor said has me wondering as they seemed more concerned about Typhus. It isnt covered by my insurance and is quite pricy. The yellow fever vaccine was $375 out of pocket. They also seemed to have the impression rabid dogs were the norm. Again rabies vax not covered by insurance. After 2 visits I am not too concerned about rabies, but mosquitos kill more humans than anything. Typhus is spread by humans, I know. But, my host tells me they have never thought about Typhus vax for themselves or their children. Just looking for some "in country" perspectives. Thanks!!
