Parties interested in Playing House or marrying in Colombia should avail themselves of the information on the internet (not using your VPN), on inheritance in Colombia.
A relationship over 1 year becomes a common law marriage.
Your foreign will does not apply to assets in Colombia, where 1/2 goes to partner. Half that can go to children and even grandchildren, not yours.
They pay 15% tax. If real estate they pay the taxes at the death. Many of the older estates are tied up in estates for many years. Even to waive their inherited share (that goes to other heirs) may require coming to Colombia, hiring a lawyer and official paperwork.
Colombia is a Civil Law country, and there are work arounds, but the laws are pretty much like the book says, not Case law or Common Law.
