Medical Elective in Costa Rica

Hi,
I'm a 4th year medical student from the UK. I'm hoping to spend 1/1.5 month working in Costa Rica next year (or another Latin American country).
I'm looking for small, rural hospitals in which I can gain experience working in more resource-poor settings.

Preferably such a hospital/health centre would be in a nice location with countryside/coastline to explore. I really like scuba diving and hiking so somewhere where I could do either of those would be great!
As a medical student, I am competent in taking histories, examining patients and clinical skills. I'm especially interested in psychiatry/mental health care but I'm happy to be in a general clinical setting for this elective.

I would happily work with charity-led medical projects or public sector hospitals.
There are many private companies which offer medical elective "experiences" often for a pretty big fee. I am trying to avoid companies like this and go directly to hospitals or health centres instead.

I'll also be travelling as a female on my own, I've read about machismo in CR but it was still recommended to me. I also won't be driving and will use public transport to go around.

Any tips would be really appreciated!
