Although my language skills are currently developing I recently spent some time working at Herlev hospital Copenhagen as a staff nurse. A degree of support was given by the ward to facilitate me, and the ward were prepared to offer this in order to meet their staffing levels. In three years of having been here in Denmark it has been the only oppurtunity I have had of using my UK nursing qualification here and of improving my language, through its usage.
Anyway................ I live in Jylland and having had to move back over here, from Kbh, because it was too expensive to commute, I am now finding it very very different over here in Jylland. The level of required language skill appears to be far greater, over here. I have been officially told that that is because they are quite desperate for staff over there, and so they are prepared to lower the language standard, which sort of makes me feel a bit used really, but anyway, I' ll just have to get over it I guess.
What I am interested in is finding out
1) if there are other nurses living here in Denmark, who arent practising
2) what they are doing instead
3) would they return to practise nursing and use their qualification in health care if there excisted a route that could facilitate them whilst they further intergrated.
There may well be an underlying resource of nurses that positively could contribute towards the health care system, whilst helping to meet the growing staffing shortages.
If you are a nurse who is not working at the moment and are living over here in Denmark, it would be brilliant if you would just e-mail me and I will see how many there are. I would be looking to see if a course could be developed to fast track nurses back into health care, if it turned out I am not alone.
