Hi there
My fiancee is from Ecuador, and we are moving there in November, for a year, for him to finish his studies.
My problem is deciding what to do professionally during this time.
It's a bit complicated because what I would like to do for work and what I probably CAN do for work, are different.
Primarily, I am a singer. However, I don't think that I will be able to make a living from singing in Quito - so I would be happy just to join a group or sing for free/fun. I sing jazz, musical theatre, pop/rock and would love to learn other styles (Any suggestions on any of this would be great!)
I also am trained in eyelash extensions, spray tanning and massage. If I could do this, that would be GREAT! However, given that Ecuadorian people tend to be naturally tanned with amazing eyelashes, I'm not sure if I can use these skills! Maybe massage? I would love some advice on whether or not you think I could make a living from this - either with locals, expats or a combination of both. I have done many internet searches, but can't seem to find anything about other local salons offering these services.
Finally, I could do a TEFL course and teach English, but that would be another expense, and I have already spent a LOT on training in my current areas of expertise.
I am feeling very lost - firstly about work, and secondly, if I will get to fulfill my artistic needs by singing in Quito. I have given up performing once before in my life for love... and although I love my fiancee dearly, and that's why I'm moving... I don't want to lose it again when I have put so much time, money and effort into developing myself as a singer here in London!!!
Would love any responses
warm regards
Cat
