Hi everyone
I have been lurking for a while now and soaking up all the news - followed Chiquita's move to Cuenca with great interest. I'm also from South Africa originally, but have been living in Atlanta with American hubby for many years.
My 5 yr old daughter and I will be visiting Cuenca soon. We will be in Manta from Aug 20th onwards, and would like to rent a room with a Spanish-speaking family in Cuenca for 2 weeks. Our dates are flexible - we're only flying back to the States mid-October. Does anybody have any recommendations? I'm not sure how one would go about searching for a non-smoking environment. It would be wonderful if the family had young children so my daughter can practice her Spanish too :-) Should I place a "wanted" ad in a local paper? How long before the time? Any advice would be much appreciated.
I will also be bringing two extra suitcases with me to fill up with goodies from Otavalo. If anyone needs something from the States, let me know and I can probably bring it along in those two empty suitcases. It's tax-free holiday this weekend here in GA, and I don't mind running out to get a few things, as long as it is to mainstream stores and I don't have to run all over.
Feel free to take me up on the offer - I was a missionary in Africa, and remember how nice it was just to get silly stuff like soft Kleenex or fluffy towels from home.
Thanks!
Sondra
