New Year's resolution

15 years ago
My new year's resolution is to not engage in any political debates (discussions) and to learn as much as I can about EC before my visit this summer. I will have to sit on my hands ... but I will succeed!.
First EC relevant question.
I have run into this warning in guidebooks, etc. .... have any of you had someone squirt salsa or ketchup (or anything) on you as a distraction for pickpocketing or other charming mugging techniques? Where? In bus terminals? Getting out of taxis?
