Taking things personally

It always astonishes me how so many people take what is said on forums like this personally. Responding to another person's perception with sarcasm or name-calling just purlongs the dialogue. A book, The 4 Agreements, that I pretty much have taken to heart suggests that anything said to you is about the speaker more than it is about you.
Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion. If that opinion is that I am an idiot then so be it. It really has nothing to do with me.
