I'm a 30 year old mum travelling with a nearly 10 year old boy. We are from NZ and have been living in the UK and Middle East for the past 4 years.
I'm a teacher and have recently applied for a job in Quito. Ecuador appeals to me because of it's natural beauty, location to incredible places, and of course the opportunity to learn Spanish in a semi-immersion environment.
I just wanted to know from those who already live there, some information about cost of living, quality of accom, safety of the city and so on.
My son is very well travelled and adaptable, and easily makes friends through school and football, but I wondered if someone with kids could give me the low down on the expat community 'feel' and what life is like there in general with kids? Is there lots to do and see? Is there a strong community feel?
Personally I am into music - I am sure there is a fantastic live music scene but would love any details/info/insights that anyone could share.
I know I've asked a lot of questions, but I'm trying to get a feel for what it would be like to live there, something I wish I'd investigated before moving to the Middle East...
Any takers? Anyone want to write me an essay about life in Ecuador/Quito?
