Introducing myself

Hello Expats

My name is Dave. I have been considering moving to and starting a business in Ecuador. I am much impressed by the beauty of Ecuador. I know a few people who have been there and they have many fine things to say about the country and the people.

I have an unusual occupation. I am a gold refiner. That is I take impure gold such as jewelry scrap and through a chemical process and heat bring the gold to 24 karat/99.99% fine gold which I sell on the market. I am self-employed in this profession for the past 20 years and in the profession as an employee for ten years before that. It doesn't seem so but this business can be started on a shoestring budget for equipment, chemicals, and tools as I have done this. I do see a number of potential problems starting up such a business in Ecuador. Security issues, where and if there is competitive buying market for 24 K fine gold, chemical supply availability etc not to mention all the visa and business licensing requirements I would need. Ecuador seems to have a freer business climate than does the U.S. from what I have read. Perhaps I am wrong in this? Anyway I would have to first make a exploratory visit there and see.

America is just wearing me down. I like my freedom and I see that being restricted more and more as my time in the harness goes on. I am tired and looking for change. 90 day visa used in full could teach me a lot. I much appreciate your comments.
