Buying Acreage and Squatters' Rights

It is possible that I may purchase some undeveloped waterfront acreage. I have not finalized my decision yet, so if anyone has a suggestion for just the right piece, I'd love to hear it.

Many countries have varying opportunities for squatters to claim a piece of the action if allowed to stay there long enough.
Can anyone tell me the rules in Ecuador (or tell me where to read about it in English)?
