Places to stay in Otavalo, Cotacachi & Quito

My wife and I are flying in to Quito on September 7th. We will spend the night in Quito and then want to head up to the Otavalo and Cotacachi area on the 8th.

Does anyone have any recommendations for places to spend the night in Quito and the nights of September 8th thru 12th or so in Otavalo and/or Cotacachi?

Also, what is the best way to get from Quito to Otavalo or Cotachi? Hire a taxi/driver? Take a bus?

We are spending our second week in Cuenca and staying at the Kookaburra. The next time back when we're here longer we'll get down to the coastal areas.
