Drunk Driving in Ecuador

14 years ago
The horrible accident in Guayaquil Sunday has underlined to me what is a serious problem here in Ecuador...drunk driving. There seem to be no serious laws against it...its totally possible to pay your way out of an arrest or jail time, and it seems to be getting worse. Sunday here in Guayaquil, 22 people waiting in a bus zone were struck by a drunk diver who plowed into the group. Conflicting reports say either 15 or 16 were killed. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families...many of them children. I hope that this may spur the government to take this problem more seriously in the future. The victims;
