Avoid Buses in Guayaquil

I just wanted to give a warning to folks who may be traveling to Guayaquil. As usually happens as we get toward the end of the year, bus robberies have been on the rise. In my opinion this is the worst I´ve seen since I´ve been here. In the last 6 weeks, I´ve been on buses that were robbed at gunpoint THREE times. In the previous five years, it happened only once. So it is probably a good idea to avoid buses for the time being and only use a taxi...preferably one procured by your hotel, or recommended by someone you know.
