Chinese Drywall and new construction

In Florida over the last few years there was a lot of publicity about the use of Chinese drywall. Builders were using it in all new construction since 2000, because it was cheap and readily available. After the clients moved into the homes, major health issues arose. As well as damaging the lungs and health of the new homeowners, this toxic drywall damaged the plumbing and air conditioning of the houses. Now there are thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands of recent construction homes in Florida which are contaminated with this drywall, sitting empty because it is too expensive to de-contaminate.

My question, for all those recently constructed developments in Ecuador, has anyone done any due diligence about the use of chinese drywall or are these recent constructions just catastophes waiting to be discovered?
