Teaching English in Ecuador

I think I'm ready to pull the trigger on this and want to say hi to everyone.

My divorce is almost final and all that goes along with that has convinced me that I want a BIG change in my life. I’m a 51-year-old Californian. I don’t agree with all that goes on in California and I have long thought of making a change.

One of the things I’ve been researching is teaching English in Ecuador.

I've been lurking this message board, and a few others, for a few weeks and I think I'm ready to make a decision.

While Cuenca seems the most desirable place due to the climate and Gringo amenities, I may not be able to find employment there so I’m considering other options.

My next choice to date is Quito:

My thoughts are that if I can pass this course and obtain references for work in Ecuador, I can apply for a resident visa and bring my stuff down. My brother lives in Texas and the freight from Texas to Guayaquil is reasonable for what I want to bring down.

From what I have been able to research on the Interweb, most of the North American residents in Ecuador are retired. I would like to hear from people that are making a “life change” such as mine and how that is working out for you.

Sincerely,

JohnToGo
