100 dollar bills

I think that I had read sometime ago in this forum that it is really hard to cash a $100 bill. I am also pretty sure that it is a very silly thing to carry a $100 bill around on my person. I also believe that I have a pretty safe means of storing cash (not on my person, of course). So my question is this. Is it better for me to bring a bunch of $20 dollar bills? Should I bring $100's and try to break them at a bank? Or should I just find a safe ATM (a mall seems to be the safest place?) and not have cash on premises? I would like to say that I realize that carrying more than $20 on me while in public is a very silly thing to do, and will definitely take all of the necessary precautions. Thanks again for all of your imput!
