any one have experience with the $25,000 visa 'deposit'?

HI, does anyone have first hand experience with the process of posting the rather large deposit with the government in EC for a visa. My understanding is that it is one of the easier paths around getting a visa to live and work (or start a small business) ... and supposedly you get the money back if and when you relinquish the visa status .... I guess that is one of the more important questions ... has anyone applied for their money back and ... how did that go???
