So, there is a wonderful little store here in Salinas that is a block off of the malecon named "mi comisariato". Now, I have always thought that I had a good handle on the Spanish language, but for the month that I have been here, I have never been able to pronounce this store. I would have to say to the taxi driver- "mi comis..." and the driver would look at me funny and then realize what I wanted. Then he would say it, and I would even ask him to repeat it, but to no avail, as they (taxi drivers) speak way too fast for me. So the other day I was talking to a girl from the states who is married to an ecuadorian man. She was telling me "go to mi comisariato for.." and then her husband said " yeah, mi comisariato is a nice store" And then a lightbulb went off in my head...
So here is a really bad spanish lesson for those of you that can not pronounce this store. Do you remember the song "Mr. Roboto" by the Styx in 1983? Ok, now think of the lyrics "domo arigato, Mr. roboto" So, do-mo-ar-i-ga-to = co-mi-sar-i-at-o. yeah, yeah, I know.. At the most, I have helped at least one person pronounce this store, at the least, you now have this song stuck in your head for the next 2 hours!
Have a wonderful day! :)
